Your Garden During Winter

Your winter garden doesn’t have to be too much like hard work as long as you plan well and keep on top of things from the beginning. If you have artificial turf, then most of the hard work has been taken away, because it is so easy to maintain without all the effort involved with natural grass.

We’ll start with artificial turf.

If you have this already installed, then all need do is brush it regularly with a soft brush to keep the piles safe and clean. Remember to remove all debris, leaves and twigs that blow in and remain on your artificial turf and try not to let it build up. If you have snow and frost you can leave it to melt, but if you’re concerned and there has been more than one heavy snowfall, just use a plastic shovel to remove it. If you’re still worried you could have a tarpaulin drawn over your artificial lawn to protect it over the winter months, but it’s not essential. If you’re looking to install artificial grass, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our expert team who will work closely with you to provide you with an artificial lawn that you will love.

Fencing.

Now is the time to make sure any repairs are done before more severe weather arrives in the new year. If you have any broken fences, repair them and clean them, tighten any loose ones, and your fencing should be able to withstand gale force winds. Treat the fencing with a strong protection that will keep it safe from mould, insects, rot and algae. Once you’ve done that there’s not much more you can do other than to make sure it’s strong, sturdy and ready for anything winter throws at it. Our team can carry out any fencing installation you require.

Decking.

Clean your decking much in the same way you’d do with your fencing. Clear the surface before doing this and remove any outdoor furniture and pack it away for the winter. Remove any plant pots and decorations, plus any lights or cooking appliances. Then take a brush and sweep the deck thoroughly. Remove any loose debris so the surface is clear, once you’ve done this wash it with a detergent and warm water. Let it dry and then consider what type of treatment you’ll use. It’s made of wood so naturally it’s going to need some protective treatment the same as your wooden fencing.

A new coat of stain will help with winter, if you’ve done this before you’ll need to strip the old stain before applying the new one. Once the decking is stripped, dry and clean you can apply the stain. A fast drying one has obvious advantages and you’ll be able to walk on it sooner. It’ll also look good over the winter and retain its natural oils. Keep brushing off leaves, twigs and any other rubbish that blows into your garden over the weeks ahead and that will give you less to do over the spring and summer.

If you have composite decking then a good clean and removing leaves, twigs and other debris is all you need to do. You won’t need to strip it or treat it like you would with wooden decking. If you’re in need of a new decking, don’t wait in getting in touch with our team who are more than happy to help with any garden decking installations you require.
